The ups and downs of finals.

On Sunday I witnessed the Phoenix, Newcastle match and it reminded me of the many joys of football. Despite having no real links with either team (I was going for Newcastle because of it's name, it's manager who I quite like and because they didn't knock Glory out) I found myself really getting into the game. It was quite a spectacle, everyone ran themselves into the ground and by the 75th minute they were exhausted. The suspense of the extra time, the desperation in the players, the silent prayers from the fans. It's just brilliant.

Unfortunately it's not all praise today. I feel slightly hard done by. Last week Glory played well, they were the better side, they came so very, very close to bringing home a finals match. They had to compete in the fortress of a stadium that is Westpac Stadium. Melbourne and Sydney got to have two legs, which is fair, what bothers me is why couldn't we have two legs? I can see only benefits, both sets of fans are happier, more money is coming into the game and no team is advantaged. The only reason Glory lost is because it didn't have the shed at it's back.

Oh and another thing. The finals for the fourth Champions League spot is an absolute joke.
Can you imagine if Fulham got into the Champions League? It's adding to fixture congestion and is just downright stealing from poor little liverpool (Who'll probably come fourth.)

  1. hmm. i don't think fulham will steal fourth place. you should be looking at aston villa or manchester city stealing it from liverpool.

man Milner is such a good player. thought i like to add that in.

  3. Really? that sounds like a fair rule. thats awesome. so Liverpool don't really have to play for fourth place if this rule applies.

  4. Teams are going to overextend themselves and run themselves financially into the ground. Fixture Congestion worsens. Ideally the Championship spot should be reserved for CHAMPIONS not some mediocre team who comes 7th.
